Changing the World is in Your Hands

I teach English to kids, and one of the topics I covered with them was called “A helping hand”.

I taught them to say “I like helping…, I help...”. One girl told me: “Teacher, I don’t know what to write, I don’t help”. And I told her: “You can do something every day, and maybe you are doing it”. I asked her more questions and by answering me, she noticed she actually does something, and that she can do more than she thinks, so I told her what a good job she’s doing. I feel like encouraging my students to help and to do things for others is something good for them, as I see their empathy is improving.

Some days later I got asked this question by a follower: “if you had time to volunteer, what would you do?” I said something like: “Every day, there’s an opportunity to do something, and to create a positive impact; with the little time I have I’ve been able to feed homeless animals, donate food, I’ve been part of different organizations and clubs who are focused on helping people in different areas”. I mentioned all of these because I want to motivate people to take action and make the world a better place.

One of the latest volunteer works I have done was a wall painting in my city. The objective of this wall painting is to share positive messages across our city. Our city is very damaged mainly by the violence; there are a lot of things going on here, so we think that by spreading positive messages we can encourage more people to be happy, and to contribute in making this city a better place.

This wall painting was planned by a group called Reynovacion Ciudadana, they have done a lot of activities in the city, and I’m glad that I have started to contribute with them in their activities.

I think, if everyone started to donate a little bit of their time to do something positive, the world would be a much better place. There are many ways to help! Even the smallest of actions can make a big impact to others.

If you need help or advice on how to start doing something in your city, or if you want me to help you figure out what you can do, you can contact me, and I’d be more than glad to help. Let’s create a movement of giving. Making the world a better place is not only in the hands of our governments, it’s on our hands too!

And when someone asks you: “if you had time to do volunteer work, what would you do?”, feel free to say: “I’m already doing something”. You never know who can be motivated by your story and can start doing something, too.
